Seth Rogen Devastates 'Home Alone' Fans With New Discovery About the Film

Canadian-American comedic actor Seth Rogen may have unintentionally positioned himself as the Grinch when he shared his shocking discovery about Home Alone.

Written by late filmmaker John Hughes (The Breakfast Club) and directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ), Home Alone follows 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) as he's accidentally left behind while his family departs the United States for a trip to Paris. Kevin soon discovers two robbers intend to rob his family's home. Alone, he hatches up a plan to stop the thieves.

On Tuesday, the 36-year-old Like Father actor recalled the scene in Home Alone where Kevin watches a black and white gangster movie, called Angels With Filthy Souls. Rogen might have ruined Christmas for some people when he informed his 7.79 million Twitter followers Angels With Filthy Souls isn't a real film.

"My entire childhood, I thought the old timey movie that Kevin watches in Home Alone (Angels With Filthy Souls) was actually an old movie," Rogen tweeted on Tuesday.

While many fans voiced their shock and dissatisfaction with Rogen's discovery, celebrities like Avengers actor Chris Evans seemed to be surprised by Rogen's finding as well. Evans tweeted in response, "IT'S NOT????" Rogen, in turn, tweeted: "Sorry dude. Merry Christmas ya filthy animal."

Nick Kroll, who stars on Netflix's Big Mouth, replied to Rogen's tweet as well. "It isn't? (Dead serious)," the 40-year-old actor tweeted. In response, Rogen replied: "Yeah man. You deserved to find out in a better way than this."

Home Alone, which drummed up $285,761,243 domestically, resulted in four additional installments. A sequel to Angels With Filthy Souls was featured in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. According to Vanity Fair, the films were based on James Cagney's movie Angels with Dirty Faces.

Rogen's discovery comes on the heels of a commercial where Culkin appeared in a commercial for Google that paid homage to the beloved film. Culkin reprised his role of Kevin for an ad promoting the Google Assistant software, which helped the all-grown-up McCallister family member survive being home alone once more.

Culkin shared behind-the-scenes moments from the making of the Google advertisement to Instagram on Monday, which featured the caption: "#heygoogle remember when we made a Home Alone #ad that one time? I hope so because it was only a few weeks ago!"
