'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings': Post-Credit Scenes Explained

Like every Marvel movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings features two post-credit scenes that teases what's to come in the future.

After inheriting his father's Ten Rings and saving the world from the clutches of soul eaters, the film ends with Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) and Katy (Awkwafina) going out for drinks with their friends to get a sense of normality following the events of the film.

However, their lives will never be the same again and they are interrupted by Wong (Benedict Wong) who demands they come with him.

And Newsweek can reveal everything you need to know about the film's post-credit scenes.

What is the first post-credit scene?

The first post-credit scene appears mid-credits, and follows on directly from the very end of the film.

In it, Shang-Chi and Katy discuss the Ten Rings with Wong, while Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) appear via video link.

Wong reveals that Shang-Chi's battle with his father Wenwu (Tony Leung) prompted the Ten Rings to send out a beacon across the galaxy.

The beacon is in an ancient language but isn't one recorded in human history, and Captain Marvel claims she doesn't recognize it as an alien language either.

She then receives a distress signal and has to quickly leave the group, telling Shang-Chi and Katy that Bruce can give them her number, which he later reveals he doesn't have even though she "does this all the time."

While the origins of the beacon are unclear, it will likely have repercussions either in a future Shang-Chi film or in films like The Eternals or Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

Banner's arm is also in a sling for an unknown reason, and the way he got the injury will no doubt be something that is explored in a different Marvel production; perhaps She-Hulk's Disney+ series, which will be released in 2022.

What happens in the second post-credit scene?

The second post-credit scene comes at the very end of the movie, and focuses on Shang-Chi's sister Xialing (Meng'er Zhang).

Earlier in the film, Shang-Chi claimed that Xialing had traveled to the Ten Rings organization's headquarters to close it down.

However, it is soon revealed that Xialing had lied to Shang-Chi and was in fact taking over the criminal group herself, and she was not only revamping the building but also introducing female fighters—something her father forbid.

Xialing takes up her seat at the head of the table, teasing that she was going to "get to work" now she's in charge.

As the camera pans away, Xialing is seen speaking with several people while men and women train in the courtyard.

The women are of particular importance as several of them appear to be the Black Widow spies that were freed by Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and her sister Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) at the end of Black Widow.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is out in theaters now.
