Shih Tzu Goes to Groomers, Owner Not Prepared for Result: 'Wrong Dog'

A woman has left internet viewers in stitches after her dog's groom has made them unrecognizable.

Abigail (@_abbycpt) uploaded hilarious footage of her Shih Tzu after a fateful trip to the groomers. The once-plush pooch with a sweeping gray-and-white coat was almost bald with only their long ear hair remaining. Abigail shared the before-and-after images of her pet in the clip, which has amassed more than 2.7 million views since April 29. She said on TikTok: "I think the groomer gave me the wrong dog."

Thousands of commenters could not believe their eyes when they saw the dog's new hairdo, with one writing: "From Shihtzu to beagle real quick."

Another added: "That's not the same dog surely."

Newsweek reached out to @_abbycpt for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.

Shih Tzus are longhaired small dogs originating from China. They are loving, but their coat requires a high level of maintenance, according to the American Kennel Club.

Other Shih Tzu owners shared they had similar experiences or were too scared to take their pets to the groomers in case they had the same experience.

Amanda Lynn wrote: "She just needs her ears trimmed to the leather & she'd look great! I feel your pain tho, I had a Shih Tzu too & they did a doozy on him one time."

Others found the transformation highly humorous. Erica posted: "It's so hard to look them in the eye when that happens."

Some had more positive things to say about the transformation, with one adding: "I get my dogs hair like this year round helps with there hygiene and they are always happier."

Though this pup had an unlucky experience, groomers are often a lifeline for pets who have been abandoned.

Teeni was abandoned and had his first-ever grooming session documented by his new owners where the groomers took exceptional care to ensure the husky felt like he was in safe hands.

His owner, who uses the handle @milothehuskyrescue, shared the adorable video, which gained over 443,000 views.

Other dogs don't react so well to being touched and trimmed; a pup called Bean was so terrified that he knocked the groomer out, and had to be muzzled and sustained in the air until his owner could come to collect him.
