How to Sign Up for PlayStation Stars

Sony recently announced the rollout of PlayStation Stars, a new loyalty program available to PlayStation fans. During its initial announcement, Sony shared that PlayStation Stars would launch first in Japan, followed by a North American and European release. Now, it's finally come to North America and users can jump in and start collecting new goodies right now.

But, before you can start earning points and collecting goodies in PlayStation Stars, you're going to need to sign up for the program. There are a couple of ways to sign up, but the easiest is to make sure you download the PlayStation app on your iOS or Android device.

Once downloaded, you'll log into your PlayStation account and then look for the small PlayStation Stars icon—which looks like the PlayStation logo and a star with a trail around it.

Tap on this icon, read through the terms, and accept them to join the PlayStation Stars program. Since the program just launched, it's possible you may get an error when signing up—several users have reported getting an error when accepting the terms. If this happens, simply continue trying to get into the program.

PlayStation players can earn tons of rewards and benefits with PlayStation Stars. You'll be able to earn different milestones and levels by purchasing games like "The Last of Us Part 1" and others available on... Sony

Once you're in the PlayStation Stars program, you'll be able to take advantage of different campaigns to earn collectibles and rewards. Sony has yet to say exactly what types of rewards it plans to offer, but it did say that it will add more in the future, too. For now, you can at least count on some kind of digital collectibles that you can showcase on your PlayStation account.

You'll also be able to earn different milestones and levels by purchasing games like The Last of Us Part 1 and others available on the PlayStation Store. Sony says that the level system also offers different benefits.

For example, Level 2 of PlayStation Stars will grant you access to a celebration collectible and access to all of the collectibles available with Level 1. From there, you can continue leveling up by buying more games, earning trophies, and taking part in different campaigns.

The leveling scheme appears to be tied directly to these milestones instead of just earning experience like you might in a video game. That should, at least, make it easier for some users to level up. Sony has also said that it will offer benefits for PlayStation Plus owners in the future, too.

And, because so many of the milestones are locked behind game purchases, make sure you keep up with the newest games coming out in October to see what's worth buying.
