Update: 12:14 p.m. EST–Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief Marcus Jones said that the suspect walked into the bank and displayed a handgun before demanding $20,000 in cash. He also walked into the bank manager's office and the suspect, who was carrying a backpack, said that he had a bomb. The bank manager walked to the teller line and the panic button was pushed, which alerted the 911 system.
The suspect left the bank without getting cash and went into an alley behind the building, which is where he was met by a Montgomery County police officer. A confrontation ensued and the officer shot the suspect, disabling him.
Medical assistance was given to the suspect and he was transported to Holy Cross Hospital, but he later died of his injuries. The suspect's identity was not released.
Given that the suspect possibly had a bomb, the bank and several other buildings in the area were evacuated and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue is implementing a bomb investigation to make sure the device is safe. An investigation by the police department n is also underway.

Maryland police officers responded to reports of an armed bank robbery, which resulted in the suspect reportedly being shot.
On Wednesday morning, the Montgomery County Department of Police investigated reports of an armed bank robbery at the BB&T Bank on Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. Around 11 a.m. EST, the agency explained that it was still an active investigation and that more information would be shared once it was confirmed.
Police confirmed to WTTG that the suspect was shot near the entrance of the Silver Spring metro stop, which operates as part of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
Photos from the area showed agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) at the scene.
