Simi Valley Fire: Yosemite Inc Brush Fire Breaks Out In California

A brush fire broke out in Simi Valley, California, on Tuesday, the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) confirmed. The Yosemite Inc fire grew to 50-60 acres on the east end of the valley, off Yosemite Avenue and Cottonwood.

Air and ground resources were deployed to combat the flames, and VCFD officials said the spread had begun to slow.

No structures or infrastructure were threatened by the fire on Tuesday afternoon. There were no reports of injuries. Fire officials warned nearby residents that smoke may be seen across the valley from the fire.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. The fire was moving at a slow rate of speed, VCFD said. Cottonwood Street and Yosemite Avenue were closed due to the fire, KABC reported.

Simi Valley is located in southeast Ventura County, some 40 miles from Los Angeles.

Earlier on Tuesday, California fire officials responded to another fire, this one, in the Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles. Firefighters were able to mount an aggressive assault against the Mahogany Fire, containing it shortly after it sparked. While three homes were initially threatened by the fire, none were ultimately damaged.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
