Snow Plow Trackers: How to See Where Plows Are in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City

Snow falling from Tuesday and into Wednesday either already was, or was expected to snarl traffic on Wednesday. People across the country were monitoring the snow and some were wondering when the snow plows would be coming through to help clear the wintry weather.

The National Weather Service provides great resources for actually tracking the winter weather and the snow, but the plows working to clear the snow are on their own though some cities and states do have trackers on their plows. The snow was expected in much of the eastern region and the NWS was issuing weathering warnings, watches and advisories.

Some departments of transportation have their own trackers for statewide tracking of plows and trucks working to clear snow, other trackers are only established on a city level. Below are some states and cities expecting snow Wednesday where snow plows can be tracked.

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia snow plow trackers:

In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the plows were already out working to clear snow that was falling by Wednesday morning. The snow had already started there by 9 a.m. EST Wednesday and in the Pittsburgh metro area there were about two to four inches of snow expected through the day. The city has its own tracker for the plows to determine where they all are at any given time during a storm, this also allows residents to check when their street might be plowed.

The state of Pennsylvania has its own snow plow tracking website that allows users to track any Pennsylvania Department of Transportation plow online. It's available on the 511 website and users simply have to filter for snow plows to see where they are across the state.

Omaha snow plow tracker:

The city of Omaha, Nebraska, has a similar snow plow tracker website to the one Pittsburgh has. Most of the snow in Nebraska was over by Wednesday morning, but that doesn't always mean that plows are off the roads. Even once the snow stops there can be work for the plows to do clearing what's left over and making the roads safe again. The tracker for Omaha shows the plows themselves as well as the plowing routes.

Delaware snow plow tracker:

The state of Delaware has its own tracking system as well. On that interactive map users can see where there are stationary plows and where there are plows cruising along working to clear snow. Snow was expected to fall across the state through Wednesday causing traffic delays and hazardous travel so the plows there would be key Wednesday.

New York City snow plow tracker:

When there's a storm, New York City can activate its snow plow tracker online. It can help residents track the progress of plows and trucks helping to clear roadways and is available on the city's Plow NYC website.
