Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas wants to remain at Chelsea to fight for a place in Antonio Conte's team amid reports of a move to Real Madrid.

The former Arsenal man was left out of Conte's team for Chelsea's first game of the season, a 2-1 win over West Ham, which sparked speculation of a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas, who won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2015, was linked with a move to Zinedine Zidane's side in La Liga but the Frenchman described the situation as "complicated."

"Cesc is a great player, but it is not very straightforward," Zidane said. "I am going to end up with a squad where three or four players do not get selected. To therefore put another player in there makes it difficult."

Fabregas looks set to remain in west London under the new management of Conte as he aims to prove his worth, according to Sky Sports.

Chelsea travel to Vicarage Road on Saturday to face Watford in the second game of the Premier League season.
