Claudio Ranieri will smash Leicester City's transfer record if a £30 million ($39.5 million) deal for Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani can be completed on the last day of the transfer window.

The Algerian striker is due to fly to England Wednesday to complete a medical ahead of the move to the Premier League champions, according to The Guardian.

Slimani, 28, scored 27 times in the Portuguese league last season, helping Sporting finish in second place behind Benfica.

The £30 million deal would almost double the club's transfer record, set earlier in the window with the arrival of Ahmed Musa from CSKA Moscow for £16 million ($21 million).

Slimani has already struck this season for Sporting, scoring in the club's 2-1 win over rivals Porto.
