Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has honed his focus in the summer transfer window on strengthening his defense.

The Merseyside club has been continually linked with a move for Cologne's Jonas Hector, who is rated at around £20 million ($27 million).

Hector, who plays left-back, fits the profile of player Klopp is chasing after defenders Mamadou Sakho , Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, as well as defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva, all suffered injuries.

"Gomez, Sakho and Lucas are all injured so, of course, we haven't got enough centerbacks at the moment," Klopp said. "There have been too many games with not enough centerbacks."

The 26-year-old defender has been playing for Cologne since 2012.
