Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to join Italian giants Inter Milan in the race for Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to reports in France.

The 27-year-old Frenchman, who featured for his country at Euro 2016, has sought a transfer away from St James' Park after the club was relegated from the Premier League last season.

According to France Football, Inter will make a £34.4 million ($45 million) offer for the midfielder, but Klopp's Liverpool is keen to enter the race as well.

Despite signing Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum during the summer transfer window, Klopp is looking forward to August 31 when all deals must be complete.

"I wait for the day when the transfer window is closed," he said. "I can't believe how obsessed you all are with this.

"What will happen we will see, I don't know in this moment, but we do not have a preferred position to sign players."

Klopp and Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday after being beaten 2-0 by newly-promoted Burnley last weekend.
