Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho is in contention to return to Jurgen Klopp's team for the trip to Manchester United next week, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

Coutinho has been on the sidelines for Liverpool's last eight games after suffering ligament damage in his ankle against Sunderland in November.

But Klopp, whose side hosts Plymouth at Anfield in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, says the Brazilian is "on a very good way" but won't be available yet.

A midweek League Cup semifinal tie with Southampton is also likely to be too early for Coutinho, Klopp says, but the possibility of a return at Old Trafford comes as a major boost.
