Inter Milan is interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva when the transfer window reopens on January 1, according to the BBC.

Lucas, Liverpool's longest-serving player, has started just three matches for Jurgen Klopp's side this season.

Inter, which is seventh in Serie A, is keen to bring the Brazilian to the Italian capital for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.

The Italians would want to have Lucas in place at the San Siro before the campaign resumes on January 8.

The 29-year-old joined Liverpool in 2007 from his home country side of Gremio, making 324 appearances for the Anfield side.

Liverpool is third in the Premier League. Klopp's side faces Stoke City at Merseyside on Tuesday.
