Pep Guardiola believes Real Madrid's Toni Kroos is the missing link for his Manchester City side ahead of the new Premier League season, according to reports in Spain.

Guardiola, who succeeded Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium this summer, is reported by Marca to have 60 million euros ($66 million) to lure Kroos away from the Bernabeu.

The German worked with Guardiola during the 2013/14 season, when the duo was working together at the Allianz Arena for Bayern Munich, but Kroos left for Madrid the following season.

Kroos, 26, is not believed to be convinced about joining City, while Madrid has already insisted the midfielder is not for sale. He still has four years remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu.

City was set to face rivals Manchester United in a pre-season friendly in Beijing but the tie was cancelled due to heavy rain.

The Premier League season begins on August 13 for City with Sunderland the visitors to the Etihad.
