Jose Mourinho could be about to write his name into the record books just a week into his tenure at Manchester United—but only in the transfer market.
Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal as manager at Old Trafford last week, having been sacked at Chelsea in December in his second stint at the club.
A struggling United brought the serial winner Mourinho to the club after achieving just the FA Cup in the last three seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
Mourinho is expected to begin a squad overhaul and, according to The Sun, he could break the British transfer record to take Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba back to United.
The 23-year-old Frenchman left United for Italy in 2012 after struggling to establish himself in Ferguson's team, but may be on his way back for £60 million ($86 million).
United already holds the British record, having taken Argentinian Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford from Real Madrid in 2014, in a deal worth around £59.7 million.
Di Maria left the following season, moving to Paris Saint Germain, after an underwhelming campaign.
