American vice-captain Tiger Woods has revealed he would like to one day lead his nation at the Ryder Cup as Team USA captain.

Woods, one of five deputies to Davis Love III in America's 17-11 victory over Europe at Hazeltine, has competed at seven Ryder Cups but would be keen to captain at some point in the future.

"Seeing what our captain went through, that's hard," Woods said. "Yeah, I would love to do it. I would be honored to do it in the future, if asked."

The 40-year-old was a background figure in Minnesota over the weekend, and says his new role made him realize the challenges a captain faces.

"As a non-player, it's very complicated," Woods said "There's a lot of things that I didn't realize that went on, and very eye-opening and it was a great experience. It really was. I learned a lot and I became really close to a lot of these guys, and it's been just an honor to be part of it."

Woods is aiming to return to the course for the first time this year in two weeks at the Safeway Open, and insists he isn't prepared to give up on playing at the Ryder Cup again.

"From the player standpoint of it, I like playing," he added.
