'Star Wars Battlefront 2' PS4 Servers Down or Laggy After Grievous Update

Star Wars Battlefront 2 just got a major update on PS4, and it seems to have some nasty side effects. In addition to adding General Grievous as a playable hero, the patch has introduced lag, network connectivity problems and server issues on Sony's platform.

Recent tweets from EA Community Manager Ben Walke confirm Battlefront 2's developers at DICE are looking into the issue. "We're currently investigating an issue on PS4 which appears to be causing lag and connectivity problems," Walke posted around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, adding that the "team is currently working to resolve" the shortcomings.

With regard to player reaction, most reports suggest that increased server lag has rendered the latest update non-functional. "The lag is making the game unplayable," wrote Twitter's Paddy Gordon. Other reports call the network problems "pretty bad" and too common to ignore.

In fact, some of the bugs with Battlefront 2's October update aren't limited to Sony's flagship console. After Walke confirmed the network difficulties, several users chimed in to say the Heroes Vs Villains character select menu is broken on Xbox One as well. The biggest issue there being that it's impossible for users to know which Hero the menu's cursor has selected.

This is far from the first time Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been beset by network issues. Shortly after the arrival of September's Squad System update, players on Xbox were unable to connect to the game due to a 721 error code. In April, servers were taken offline for a full day on all platforms to address database glitches. DICE was able to get the game up and running in both instances, but not before leaving many passionate Battlefront 2 fans feeling hosed.

We'll update this article with additional information as we learn more.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. So far the connectivity issues only appear to impact PS4.
