The Star Wars: Episode IX trailer has arrived, finally revealing the last of the sequel trilogy movies begun by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. We also finally have a full title for the last movie in the Skywalker Saga: Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.
Revealed at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago late Friday morning, the new trailer introduces the final conflict between the Resistance and the First Order, pitting Rey and her allies against Kylo Ren. But it also sounds like a familiar old villain may return, with the trailer ending on Emperor Palpatine's wicked laugh.
This first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker gives us quick glimpses at Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and even the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian.

This will be the last Star Wars trailer fans can expect to see for a while. On Thursday, Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Lucasfilm will take a break from new Star Wars movies after Star Wars: Episode IX.
"We have not announced any specific plans for movies thereafter," Iger said during a Bloomberg Television interview. "There are movies in development, but we have not announced them."
Instead, the next few Star Wars projects will be on TV, specifically new streaming service Disney+, which will have multiple Star Wars shows, including the live-action The Mandalorian. "We will take a pause, some time, and reset," Iger said, "because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Star Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus."
Part of this hiatus and retooling likely has to do with the box office failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story , the second in Disney and Lucasfilm's spin-off series of non-Saga movies, after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Solo flopping likely lead to the end of other character-focused spinoff movies, including rumored projects like an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie.
But that doesn't mean more Star Wars movies aren't on the way. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has confirmed he's developing a trilogy of movies set in a different era of the Star Wars galaxy. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are also developing their own Star Wars trilogy.
Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker is in theaters December 20.
