A Utah state attorney issued an apology after sending an expletive-filled email to a campaigning Salt Lake City politician who woke him up from a nap by knocking on his door last weekend.
Assistant Utah Attorney General Steven Wuthrich sent the email to LGBT politician Darin Mano, who is campaigning to be the first Asian American on the Salt Lake City Council.
"I will do everything in my power to see you will never get elected to any office higher than dog catcher. I hate you. I hate your family.... Kindly die and go to hell," the email reads.
Wuthrich issued an apology on Tuesday and Mano replied, saying he was grateful for the reassurance that his family was safe. He added that he would leave any disciplinary action to the Utah attorney general's office and the bar association.

Wuthrich sent the email after Mano knocked on his door Saturday looking for someone else living there who is a registered voter, either Wuthrich's wife or roommate, Mano told The Salt Lake Tribune.
Mano was appointed to the City Council and is now campaigning to be officially elected. He is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a father of four. He told KSTU-TV he was shocked and disturbed by Wuthrich's message.
"It was hard not to wonder why that email was so particularly aggressive," Mano said.
Wuthrich's apology said he regrets the "ferocity and language" of the email and does not wish any harm to Mano or his family.
"I am taking steps to examine my reaction and find ways to ensure nothing like this ever happens again," he said.
The Utah attorney general's office has said officials take the situation seriously and are determining next steps.
