Stephen Curry has rarely put a foot wrong since stepping into the NBA arena, but occasionally even he can look like a mere mortal on the court. The three-time NBA champion proved as much on Monday night, when he endured arguably the worst possession of his professional career and earned himself a "Shaqtin' of the Year" nomination from TNT show Shaqtin' a Fool, a weekly segment that pokes fun at players who cover themselves in ridicule on the court.

With the Golden State Warriors up by 34 against the Lakers in Los Angeles, Curry had a breakaway opportunity to widen the gap even more and sprinted towards the basket unchallenged, shaping to dunk.

Unfortunately for the two-time MVP, he never made it anywhere near the rim, as he slipped on the court and landed rather heavily on his backside. Not one to be discouraged by a little, if rather embarrassing incident, Curry quickly got back to his feet and recovered possession in the corner, looking to make amends for his slip-up.

His three-pointer flew harmlessly past the rim, much to the amusement of those watching on at the Staples Center.

The sight of Curry air-balling a shot from beyond arc is a rarity in itself given he averages 47.8 percent from three-point territory in his career, but the fact it came after his slip-up made it even more striking. After the game, the Warriors star laughed off the mishap, suggesting he had something "really nice" planned.

"I was like a kid walking in the candy store with the whole halfcourt open," he told reporters, as per Ben Golliver of The Washington Post. "I was going to try something really nice I've never tried before. The Lord wouldn't let me do it."

While the incident guaranteed Curry an appearance on this week's Shaqtin' a Fool segment, it did not prevent him from racking up another double-double as he finished with 11 points and 12 assists.

However, Curry was overshadowed by Klay Thompson, who scored 44 points in just 27 minutes as the Warriors routed the Lakers 130-111. Thompson's scoring spree was inspired by an incredible effort from beyond the arc, which saw the 28-year-old become only the second player in league history to hit 10 consecutive three-pointers and to land his first 10 threes in the game.

The win was the Warriors' eighth in a row and the defending NBA champions are now 33-14 for the season, leading the Western Conference by a one-game margin over the Denver Nuggets.

Following back-to-back wins in Los Angeles against the Clippers and the Lakers, Golden State's five-game road trip continues on Thursday with a trip to Washington, followed by games in Boston and Indianapolis on Saturday and Monday, respectively.
