Stephen King Slams Donald Trump

After Donald Trump had a meltdown over E. Jean Carroll's defamation case against him, Stephen King took to social media to slam the former president for being unable to "keep his mouth shut."

Carroll, a former Elle columnist, said Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman department store in the mid-1990s and then defamed her when he denied her claim. Trump is currently on trial for his 2019 statements about Carroll's sexual assault allegations, but lashed out at the former columnist after she testified against him in court on Wednesday.

In this defamation lawsuit, which focuses on Trump's statement that Carroll made up the attack to sell copies of her book, Carroll is seeking $10 million in damages. Trump is arguing that the remarks he gave while president denying the assault took place are protected under absolute immunity as they fell under the scope of his official duties.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan threatened to remove Trump from the court during Wednesday's proceedings after he repeatedly spoke loudly with his attorneys while Carroll was on the witness stand.

King doesn't approve of Trump's outburst and has taken to X, formerly Twitter, to make his opinion known.

Newsweek contacted King and a spokesperson for Trump for comment via email Thursday.

"Trump can't keep his mouth shut, can he? All else aside, not a man you want to trust with national secrets," he wrote.

The blockbuster author's tweet comes after Trump declared victory in Iowa on Monday night, winning in all but one of the state's 99 counties and crushing his closest opponent by roughly 30 points. Trump's success in Iowa has cemented his place early on as the clear favorite to clinch the GOP presidential nomination.

People took to King's post to share their support for Trump and lambast the horror author.

"You cant keep your mouth shut, either," one person wrote.

"Trump kept the peace. Biden started multiple wars. Please explain that Stephen King," said another.

"We know you are part of the propaganda machine. And you truly believe that when you disparage and defame Trump you will convert one of us to the left. For most of us, we recognize when we are being manipulated. Mostly we allow insults to roll off. But you allow Trump to live rent free in your head triggering outbursts. I sincerely hope you get some help. It must be horrible living with such hatred for someone. You have allowed it to consume your soul," a third person wrote.

A fourth added: "Oh no not national secrets, this isnt one of ur fantasy books. Keep ur head in the clouds mate."

Elon Musk even appeared in the comments, sharing an old tweet from Trump that read: "Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me 'old,' when I would NEVER call him "short and fat?" Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!" To which Musk added: "Trump has made some really funny social media posts."

Others used the opportunity to share their concerns over Trump potentially becoming president in 2024.

"Not a man you want to trust with a country, period," one person commented.

"if he makes it to office our country will likely not last long. we need new choices. just vote for me. I was joking before but now im just sure its the only good choice out of no choice. you'll have to write me in and threaten them if they refuse it tho. idk how that will fare," said another.

A third commented: "Maybe Stephen King can write a book where the main character is based on Trump. That book would have people afraid to go to sleep or go to the voting polls."

Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, unsuccessfully requested a mistrial, accusing Carroll of deleting evidence after the writer admitted deleting emails that were critical of her coming forward with her claims against Trump.

In a series of posts on Truth Social Thursday, Trump attacked Carroll's lawsuit against him, calling it a "hoax" while again saying the incident never took place. In his lengthy social media posts, Trump referred to part of Carroll's testimony in which she said she purchased a gun and kept it by her bed because she was concerned for her safety in the years after Trump began publicly attacking her over the sexual assault claims.

"Now that E. Jean Carroll has admitted to illegally deleting and destroying mountains of evidence (as well as, it seems, unlawfully owning a gun and buying ammunition!), if Judge Lewis Kaplan does the right and PATRIOTIC thing, he will immediately dismiss the current Election Interfering Witch Hunt Trial, and reverse the unfair and biased result in the first Sham Trial, which was forced upon a very popular and successful President of the United States of America (ME!)," Trump wrote.

"The Crooked Joe Biden-directed Conspiracy of Hoaxes and Scams is falling apart like a rotten House of Cards. Make America Great Again!"

Carroll will return on the stand Thursday as Habba finishes her cross-examination. The former president isn't expected to be in attendance as he plans to travel to Florida for this mother-in-law's funeral.
