Stray Cat Staying at Woman's Side While Visiting Dad's Grave Warms Hearts

A grieving woman who befriended a stray cat at a cemetery has gone viral, with TikTok users dubbing the animal as a "gift" from the afterlife.

In a video shared to TikTok on July 25, user @jadasezer explained she was visiting her dad's grave for the first time when a brown and white cat jumped in her lap. Now, the cat, who has since been named Yoshi, is happily settled into Jada's home.

In the video's caption, Jada wrote: "The first day I visited my dads grave, this stray cat came out of nowhere and jumped in my lap. He wouldn't leave my side and sat with me until I left."

Jada decided to take the friendly feline to the vets to see if he was reported missing. The cat didn't have a microchip and no one came forward to claim him, so Jada decided to make him her own.

"Welcome home Yoshi," she wrote over a cute clip of the cat napping on her bed.

A survey by OnePoll found that 62 percent of adults who believe in the afterlife claim a spirit has tried to contact them. Forty-six percent of those who believe in ghosts said a deceased loved one has reached out from the other side, while one in five swear a dead loved one has made their physical presence known, such as by brushing past them. Seventeen percent attributed flicking lights to the ghost of a loved one, and one in 10 believe they have heard a spirit talking or crying in their home.

TikTok users were touched by the video, with many suggesting that Jada's father sent the cat to comfort her. The post has since received over 85,000 likes and over 400 shares.

One user said: "Your dad sent Yoshi to you."

A second agreed, writing: "Yoshi is adorable, definitely a gift from your dad! He knew you needed a buddy to help you grieve. Moments like this are beautiful."

"Cats are amazing spiritual protectors," commented another.

While a fourth user commented: "He needed you just as you needed him."
