How 'Succession's' Sarah Snook Became a Poster Child for 'March for Life'

The March for Life recently capitalized on Succession star Sarah Snook's Emmy speech about being pregnant to promote the anti-abortion movement's message ahead of its annual march on Friday.

In posts to X, formerly Twitter, the March for Life account celebrated Snook's speech after receiving an Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. The account used Snook's speech to share the movement's views on abortion and wrote, "Women don't need abortion to succeed...Pregnancy is a superpower exclusive to women that should be protected and embraced. It's not something to be viewed as a burden or an inhibitor to success."

During her speech, Snook spoke about being pregnant while filming Succession and said, "The biggest thank you goes to someone who won't understand anything that I'm saying at the moment, but I carried her with me in this last season. And really, it was her who carried me."

"It was the proximity of her life growing inside me that gave me the strength to do this and this performance. And I love you so much. And it is all for you," Snook said.

The March for Life also shared another photo from Snook's speech and wrote, "Celebrities celebrating life >>>" The two posts from March for Life garnered over 50,000 views on X.

The March for Life movement is holding its 51st annual March on Friday as abortion has remained a topic of discussion following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last year.

"The theme this year 'With every woman, for every child' focuses on the need to care for both mother and child during the nine months of pregnancy and in the years after," the movement said in a press release. "Pregnancy care centers and maternity homes across the country exist to provide support for women facing unexpected pregnancies so that no mother ever feels alone or without support on her journey."

In response to the posts by March for Life, some social media users hit back stating that the movement was using Snook's remarks for the wrong message.

"You clearly know nothing about staunchly feminist, very pro-choice, and liberal Sarah Snook. Newsflash: a lot of women love their children AND are pro-choice," X user @LAamaramay_ wrote.

X user @ascandalinpink wrote, "This is disgusting and not at all the message Sarah was trying to send."

Newsweek reached out to a publicist and talent agent for Snook via email for comment on the use of her speech by the March for Life account.

The 51st annual March for Life event will feature an array of notable guests including current Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson. Since the decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, abortion has been widely talked about by those across both sides of the aisle.

On Thursday, House Republicans voted in favor of two anti-abortion bills including one that requires the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide funding to pregnancy centers.
