The full lineup for Super Bowl LVI is confirmed now that the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals have qualified, but the lineup for the halftime show is just as exciting.
Five huge names in music are following in the footsteps of The Weeknd, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Madonna and Katy Perry by headlining the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, February 13 at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
For the second year in a row, one of the teams (Rams) will be performing at their home stadium, but three fifths of the halftime performers will also feel at home as they hail from California.
Here's everything we know about who's performing at this year's Super Bowl halftime show.
Acts Confirmed for the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show
On September 30, 2021, Pepsi, the NFL and Roc Nation announced the five-act lineup for the Super Bowl LVI halftime show.
Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar are combining to form a powerful quintet for the 2022 Super Bowl. The group are all incredibly successful musicians in their own right who have collaborated in various combinations over the years. Dre has produced records for all of the other four and is credited with assembling the group for this performance.
On January 20, Pepsi released a three and a half minute-long trailer which featured Dre contacting the other four musicians for the show.
Dre, Snoop Dogg and Lamar will all be headlining the gig in their home state of California, while Eminem and Blige hail from Missouri and New York, respectively.
Jay-Z is credited as a producer for this year's halftime show too.
Have Any Special Guests Been Announced?
As if the five headlining musicians aren't enough, the Super Bowl halftime show is known for featuring special guests as part of the headliner's performance.
This year no special guests have been announced as part of the show, which is similar to the 2021 halftime performance when The Weeknd headlined and had no special guests.
Previous examples of special guests supporting a headline include Travis Scott and Big Boi with Maroon 5 in 2019, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson supporting Coldplay in 2016, and Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott joining Katy Perry for her performance in 2015.
Hip Hop at the Super Bowl
The upcoming performance at the Super Bowl halftime show represents the first of its kind with five acts sharing the stage.
Speaking to ESPN to preview the performance, Dre said: "I would have ever thought that this moment would be happening right now. The fact that the NFL, Pepsi are allowing hip hop to come in to this game, I'm so honored and so inspired to be able to come in and do this show."
In the same interview, Snoop Dogg heaped praise on the rapper and producer who helped launch his career. "Everybody around the world is gonna get a chance to see why Dr. Dre is the greatest at what he do," he said, "And how he assembled a strong team of people like us, to get his back and support him."
Super Bowl LVI will take place on Sunday, February 13 and will air on NBC.
