'Super Smash Bros.' Switch Tournament Coming to E3 2018

Nintendo is bringing the new Super Smash Bros. for Switch to E3 this year in a special tournament at this year's show.

Invited players will gathere to compete in the Super Smash Bros. Invitational 2018 at E3 from June 11-12. This will be the first exhibition tournament with the new game, so expect some exclusive gameplay. This event will be streamed on Nintendo's social platforms.

Alongside the Super Smash Bros. Invitational will be the Splatoon 2 World Championship. This will be the first global tournament since the game's release and feature the best players and teams from around the world. This tournament will also be livestreamed, with details on both coming at a later date.

"Nintendo always takes an original approach to video game competitions, and the portability of Nintendo Switch enables unique gameplay possibilities," said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing in a press release. "We're looking forward to watching some of the best players in the world test their skills against each other in these two uniquely competitive games."

Nintendo will host online qualifiers in the U.S. and Canada before the Splatoon 2 World Championship starting April 21. Teams of four ages 13 and up can participate, and the final will take place on April 28. Teams will compete in Turf War during the open qualifiers with action moving to Ranked Battle modes during the finals. E3 2018 will take place from June 11-14 in Los Angeles.
