21 Savage said the tragic death of fellow rapper Takeoff was a "freak accident" and has shifted his perspective on how he will live the rest of his life.
While speaking on the Off the Record with DJ Akademiks podcast, 21 Savage, whose real name is Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, spoke about the late rapper and the impact of his sudden death.
"I feel like it was a freak accident, one thousand percent," the rapper said.
Takeoff, part of the rap trio Migos, was fatally shot last week after a dispute broke out during a dice game at a Houston bowling alley. Fellow Migos member Quavo was also present at the incident but was reportedly unharmed.
A representative for the Migos confirmed the rapper's death.
Authorities announced last week that Takeoff, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso, according to an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences in Houston.
21 Savage said Takeoff was "not confrontational" and was "in his own world."
"He's really quiet unless he knows you," he said. "Funny as hell if he knows you."
21 Savage, whose album "Her Loss" with Drake dropped last week, added that he never saw Takeoff mad or "with an attitude."
"He's always the exact same way every time I see him," the rapper said. "He gon smile, dap you up and mind his business."
During the podcast, 21 Savage called Takeoff's death "an eye opener."
"A lot of people are gonna learn from this situation and realize a lot of s*** isn't worth it," he said, and that most feuds and arguments "don't be worth it"
"We got one life, ain't no re-dos," he said. "This don't last a thousand years."
After taking out the time of being a kid, being broke, sleep, ing and the slowdown of old age, 21 Savage said we "only get 20 years to really live."
"Any beef that exists isn't worth it."
Moving forward, 21 Savage said he "don't want no problems with nobody."
"I'm not trying to argue," he said. "I don't want to do certain things that lead to arguments. I'd rather just be home playing the game on Clubhouse with my kids."
Takeoff's funeral will be held at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Friday.
Several high-profile artists in the rap world are expected to attend the event, titled "Celebration of Life for Takeoff."
Fellow Migos members Quavo and Offset, and Offset's wife, Cardi B, were seen heading to the memorial Friday morning.
