Taylor Swift Announces Surprise New Album 'Evermore'—Being Released Tonight

Taylor Swift has just announced a surprise new album dropping at midnight Thursday.

Titled "Evermore," the award-winning singer revealed the project is a sister album to July's "Folklore."

"I'm elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore's sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern," Swift posted on Instagram. "It's called evermore. To put it plainly, we just couldn't stop writing songs."

"Evermore" will be Swift's ninth studio album, following the critically acclaimed "Folklore."

A video for new song "Willow", which has been taken from the new album, will arrive along with the album on December 11.

Some of the collaborators from "Folklore"—Jack Antonoff and the National's Aaron Dessner—will feature on the new album.

"To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music," Swift continued on Instagram. "We chose to wander deeper in."

Swift spoke about in the past she has treated her albums as one-off events, but with "Folklore" there was "something different."

"In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning," she explained. "I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them."

The singer namechecked Dessner, Antonoff, and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon while also hinting that some other voices came onboard for the new material.

In a second post, Swift revealed the track list. "Willow" is the album's opening song, while other tracks listed include "Champagne Problems," "Gold Rush," and "Tolerate It."

One song, titled "No Body, No Crime" features Haim.

Swift is turning 31 on December 13. She spoke about the significance of this, as the age is her lucky number, 13, in reverse.

"Ever since I was 13, I've been excited about turning 31 because it's my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now," she said. "You've all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something! I also know this holiday season will be a lonely one for most of us and if there are any of you out there who turn to music to cope with missing loved ones the way I do, this is for you."

Swift confirmed she will be live on the YouTube premiere page chat before the release at midnight (Eastern) to answer fan questions.
