Tears Over Heartwarming Way Man Says Goodbye to Wife Every Day Before Work

What if your alarm ringtone was words of undying love and affection?

Taylor Downs' alarm is just that. In a viral video posted to TikTok, Downs documented the wake-up her husband gives her every morning before he leaves for work, complete with physical affection and words of affirmation. Since it was posted one week ago, the video has received over 316,000 likes and nearly 2,000 comments.

"Since you guys love my golden retriever husband, here is how he says goodbye to me before he goes to work in the morning," she captioned the video.

Downs' reference to the "golden retriever husband" echoes a popular TikTok trend of likening men who are loyal, energetic and dependable to the beloved dog breed.

And her husband matches the description. "I married the most wonderful woman in the world. I will make sure we get the best marriage ever and we can live happily ever after," Jacob said to her in the video.

In response to his words, Downs showed appreciation for his consistent affection: "I love that you always say goodbye to me before you go to work."

Downs, 28, told Newsweek that she was inspired to secretly document the morning ritual after viewers began cheering for the Florida couple's relationship online.

"Many people are inspired by our relationship and how we love and treat each other," Downs said. "People are very impressed, especially with the consistent kindness, love and affirmation Jacob shows me daily. For us, it is nothing special."

Downs said that throughout their relationship, the pair has put in quite a bit of work to have the ease they enjoy today—including self-education on "fighting well" and couples' counselling. They dated with marriage as the goal, and Downs said that they were cautious to avoid common "pitfalls" of married life.

But for a while, it was doubtful they would even get together.

Downs said that when the two met at university, they navigated the complexities of friendship and romance before eventually realizing the depth of their connection.

"Every day after class, Jacob would wait for me and walk me to my dorm. We were friends for several months before Jacob told me he liked me. When he did, I told him, 'This will never work out between us; I just don't think you are my husband,'" Downs said. Jacob continued to pursue a friendship with her regardless.

As they spent time together, her feelings grew. Yet, even after the feelings were mutual, the pair waited for the right timing. They began dating in September 2019, got engaged in October 2021 and married in June 2022.

Now, they make content where other people and couples can aspire to their level of commitment.

"We are very honored that people would view our relationship positively and want to replicate it in their relationship," Downs said. "We know that what we have is truly special."
