Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans shared the status of Hurricane Florence on her Twitter account Thursday following a backlash for not to evacuating her North Carolina home.
"Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts this morning. Looks like Florence died down and is now a Cat. 2! Great news. Keep you all posted! #HurricaneFlorence," she shared.
The tweet was met with backlash from Twitter users who told the mother she should have evacuated her family.
"You should've evacuated!" a user said. "Sorry but the storm isn't going to miraculously go around your fancy double wide. Your kids should be more important than your belongings. Flooding is still a threat and from what I remember on one episode, your husband was saying your house was sinking."
The tweet refers to the foundation of Evans's home which, according to a Teen Mom 2 episode last season, is a sinking, improper foundation.
Evans also shared a photo of herself in a bikini with the edited caption, "Pray for the Carolinas. Our linemen. And first responders."
Fellow Teen Mom 2 cast member, Kailyn Lowry, commented on Evans's decision to stay by reposting the photo on Instagram Wednesday. Lowry shared a photo of Evans captioned, "[pray] for Jenelle, I think she's crazy" and linked an article commenting on Evans's decision to stay in North Carolina.
Lowry was not the only social media user who commented on Evans's bikini photo. Evans defended her decision to post the photo on Thursday. "I don't get why everyone's offended by my profile pic I posted yesterday... I'm in the path of the hurricane, that picture is from months ago while fishing, asking for prayers.... what SO bad or disrespectful about that?" she tweeted.
A Twitter user clarified her distaste for Evans's post. "You made the post about you. Not the individuals sacrificing their lives." Evans responded. "I'm sorry... I said 'PrayForNC' and SC as in EVERYONE. Maybe I won't ever ask for prayers again and just hope for the best," she tweeted back.
Evans has been tweeting about the hurricane since Tuesday. She claims she does not live in an evacuation zone. Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall Friday morning with heavy rain and wind beginning Thursday afternoon. The storm was reduced from a Category 4 storm to a Category 2 storm Thursday morning. Rainfall from the storm began in North Carolina Thursday midday according to CBS News.
