McDonald's Shooting Leaves 16-Year-Old Dead, Two Other Teens Critical

A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in a triple shooting outside a McDonald's in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Saturday, according to police.

Two others were also injured in the shooting, one identified by police only as a 14-year-old, and the other victim was identified as an unknown male. Both were taken to a hospital to receive medical attention where they were in critical condition, police said.

The shooting took place at a McDonald's on the 4900 block of W. Hampton Avenue on Saturday, according to local reports.

The Milwaukee Police Department released a "severe alert" related to the shooting and posted a link to the alert on its Twitter page following the incident.

"Milwaukee Police are investigating a triple shooting that occurred on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at approximately 3:15 p.m. on the 4900 block of W. Hampton Avenue," the alert said. "Several individuals exchanged gunfire during an argument, subsequently striking each other. A 16-year-old Milwaukee male sustained fatal injuries. An unknown male and a 14-year-old male sustained life-threatening injuries."

A witness to the shooting spoke to WISN 12 News and talked about the anguish of people using guns to resolve their issues.

"It seems like it's never going to end," Frances Collins, who lives in the area where the shooting took place, said. "I wish it would stop, but it's like these people don't care. It is not worth it to lose somebody, to kill somebody over something that's not even necessary."

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson has said how difficult the issue of violent crime is in the city and said he is committed to resolving gun crime.

During a speech in February, Johnson declared February 1-7 to be National Gun Violence Survivors Week.

"As mayor, I am committed to the leadership and dedication needed to move the city towards security as well as prosperity," he continued. "The residents of Milwaukee deserve to feel safe, too many of them are able to illegally obtain guns and too many are resolving their conflicts with bullets. We have seen that play out one too many times this year already, it has been a very deadly year."

"Last month I shared my public safety plan and priorities for violence reduction, these are neighborhood-level investments, community healing as well as law enforcement," Johnson said.
