Who Is Arsenal Transfer Target Thomas Lemar? Watch A.S. Monaco Midfielder's Skills and Goals

Already facing fights to hold onto Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Benjamin Mendy, another of Monaco's bright young things from its startling 2016-17 campaign could be on his way out of the principality.

Thomas Lemar, the 21-year-old left winger, should wrap up a transfer to Arsenal for around £30 million ($38.4 million) by the start of next week, according to the Daily Mail.

It's possible that given the deafening noise around the generational talents of Mbappe, Lemar flew under the radar last season at Monaco. But he possesses enough talent to suggest that £30 million ($38.4 million) will be a wise investment once he has matured.

Born in the French region of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, Lemar did not join Monaco until 2015. Instead, he began his career on the French mainland with Caen in Normandy, in the north of the country.

Performances with Caen in Ligue 2, the French second division, caught Monaco's eye and there Lemar has been part of a group of young players taking Europe by storm.

Able to play on the left of attack, on the right or behind a central striker, Lemar registered nine goals and ten assists in Ligue 1 last season.

Perhaps more impressive were his performances in the Champions League. Lemar scored the winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on September 14 2016. He contributed another goal and four assists as Monaco advanced to the semifinals of that competition, where they were palmed off by Juventus.

Still, the skilful Lemar has apparently done enough to convince Wenger that he can be the next in a line of great French Arsenal attackers. If he can produce even a small percentage of the joy that one Robert Pires, for example, brought to north London, then that transfer fee will have been very well spent indeed.
