The 5 'Thor: Love and Thunder' Trailer Easter Eggs and What They Might Mean

The first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder was released on Monday, April 18, giving fans a glimpse at what's to come in the God of Thunder's fourth solo film.

Set in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is trying to find himself again as he travels with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

As well as teasing what is in store for Thor, the trailer also showed a number of other exciting moments for fans to enjoy.

Here, Newsweek looks at the top 5 Easter Eggs from the teaser:

1. Thor's Classic Comic Book Outfit

The trailer opens with Thor reflecting on his life and as he does this the character is shown running through a forest, changing from boy to man.

In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, Thor is shown in this scene running in his classic outfit from the Marvel comic books.

Thor wears a winged helmet, his metal-plated doublet, his blue leggings, and his knee-high boots, before switching to his costume from the Marvel movies.

2. King Valkyrie

At the end of Avengers: Endgame Thor gave New Asgard over to Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), who he felt was a more worthy ruler than himself.

King Valkyrie is shown in the trailer briefly in a scene where she looks bored as she sits in on a council meeting.

It appears that Valkyrie isn't too pleased with her new position of power, but it's unclear how this might change things in future.

3. Russell Crowe as Zeus

Thor: Love and Thunder will explore a number of deities including the villain of the piece: Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale).

With an adversary like that it's no wonder the film also teases the role of Zeus, played by Russell Crowe, and his rule over Mount Olympus.

It appears the Marvel Cinematic Universe has room for more than one Thunder God, as Zeus is seen clutching a lightning bolt as he addresses a cheering crowd in the trailer.

Zeus may well be one of Gorr's newest victims.

4. Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor

One of the most highly anticipated reveals of Thor: Love and Thunder was Natalie Portman's role as Mighty Thor.

It was announced at San Diego Comic Con back in July 2019 that Portman would be taking on Thor's hammer in the new film, and the teaser trailer gave fans their first look at her character Jane Foster with Mjolnir (the mythical hammer of the thunder god Thor).

The cracked hammer is seen being drawn to Jane's hand as she appeared to face off against Thor in battle, and fans may recognize that the damage to the weapon was a result of Thor's sister Hela breaking it in Thor: Ragnarok.

Whether Foster's iteration of Thor is the character from earlier films—or a variant from an alternate timeline who arrived after the multiverse was opened—is yet to be determined.

5. Falligar the Behemoth

One aspect of the trailer that fans enjoyed was how close the film seems to be to the original comics, particularly with one shot that featured a fallen Falligar the Behemoth.

In its source material, Falligar the Behemoth was a Patron god who would wrestle with black holes for fun, but was felled by villain Gorr.

Thor discovers Falligar's corpse alongside Korg (Taika Waititi) in the short clip that is shown in the trailer.

Some fans took to Twitter to share side-by-side shot of the scene from comic "Thor God Of Thunder #3" and the new Marvel movie to show how similar it was.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on Friday, July 8.
