What is Tom Brady and Peyton Manning's Golf Handicap? NFL Stars to Take on Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson in Charity Match

Golf could be the first sport to resume during the coronavirus pandemic, with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning set to compete at a charity event that could be held as early as next month.

The COVID-19 outbreak has brought the sporting world to a standstill, causing a raft of postponements and cancellations and wreaking havoc with golf's calendar. The Masters, U.S. Open and PGA Championship have all been postponed, while The Open has been canceled and the PGA Tour hasn't held an event since the Players Championship was canceled after the first round on March 12.

The wait for live golf, however, appears to be nearing its end after Turner Sports reported on Wednesday that a four-man event involving Woods, Mickelson, Manning and Brady was in the works for May.

The contest will be broadcast live by TNT and played without spectators, while proceeds will be donated to coronavirus relief efforts. Organizers are yet to decide on the date and the location, but ESPN reported the event could be held on Memorial Day at a golf course in Florida, where Woods resides and where Brady has recently relocated to since signing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month.

Mickelson revealed the pairings on Twitter, indicating Woods will play with Manning and he will pair up with Brady.

Sharing the field with Mickelson and Tiger may sound like a dream for most golf fans, but it's no easy feat. After all, it's hard to look the part when playing alongside a pair that has a combined 20 majors and 126 PGA Tour wins between them.

Manning and Brady, however, are as well equipped as anyone else. The NFL greats are keen golf fans and are regularly spotted on golf courses across the country. According to Golf Digest, Manning plays off a 3.5 handicap, while Brady, a member at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, has an handicap of eight.

Handicaps are numerical measures used among amateur golfers to indicate a players's potential, which allows golfers of different abilities to compete against each other. The lower the handicap, the better the player is.

Manning and Brady share eight Super Bowl trophies and eight MVP crowns between them and they are more than handy on the golf course. In 2013, the former shot a five-over par 77 at Augusta National, the home of The Masters, while the latter teamed up with Jim Nantz—who has called The Masters for CBS since 1989—to take on Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush in a six-hole match a few years ago.

Woods and Mickelson faced off in a winner-takes-all event in Las Vegas on the day after Thanksgiving in 2018 and a match featuring the pair along with Brady and Manning had been in the pipeline for a while, before plans were shelved as the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S.

However, the proposal has now been resurrected with the intent of donating proceeds to charity.

"There was talks about doing it all along anyway," Manning told 104.3 The Fan in Denver before the event was announced. "And now, to have a chance to have a major fundraising event for COVID-19 relief, almost like a telethon if you will [...] If that can take place, I'm all-in for that."

On April 15, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed he would support the event, should it be held in his state. DeSantis has previously expressed his belief selected sporting events should be held during the coronavirus outbreak, provided social distancing measures are adhered to.

"I'd like to see Woods and Mickelson do the golf, or whatever, because that's social distance,'' DeSantis said last week. "You wouldn't have a gallery there. You wouldn't have crowds. But to put that on TV, I think people have been starved for content."
