TikTok's Duet Feature Spawns New Bonkers Video Trend

A brand new trend has sprung up online using TikTok's duet feature in order to make incredible video compilations.

The social media platform's popularity has soared, with fans jumping on challenges, stitches, dances or re-using viral sounds.

The duet function has proven to be a hit since it launched last September, with users now taking the feature to the next level.

Fans have been sharing these masterpieces online, as numerous users film individual segments to add to a video chain.

The incredibly complicated clips are being shared not just on TikTok, but also on Twitter as the hilariously absurd films garner millions of views.

The clips generally start off with one video or a split screen, and every few seconds another video is added to the mix. Each time a user adds new footage, it changes the theme of a video ever so slightly, until what was once a man chatting with his girlfriend turns into a hostage situation.

Sharing the effort on Twitter, Aiyana N. Ishmael said: "The collaboration efforts on TikTok are amazing."

After uploading the clip on Saturday, other users went even further and added even more duets to the original clip.

At one stage more than 10 other TikTokers had added duets to the clip, turning it into a tense negotiation situation which was being broadcast on TV, with a sign language interpreter, aerial footage and a presidential address.

"It just kept going," Fenrir said in amazement.

Dionne Ayanna admitted: "I laughed for an hour straight at this."

Numerous people commented on the final product, with @loves_ling commenting: "That was mad."

Broke Lesner simply posted, alongside the crying smiling emoji face: "They keep adding onto it."

Although one woman may regret sharing a video where she called into question the duet feature.

She said: "Can we stop dueting videos when we have absolutely nothing to add to them. I don't need to know what you looked like watching that TikTok."

Fellow TikTokers soon turned that clip into a scripted, on-camera masterpiece, with the woman depicted as rubbing her hairy bellow while wearing shorts.

TikTokers called it "genius" and "fantastic," with Kashmiri Tara saying: "This is brilliant."

"That escalated," Monkeyboi noted.

And Jo joked: "Great things happen when we all work together guys and this is an example of that. Bravo."

While Holly Becky added: "I'm dead. This just keeps getting better and better."

Explaining the duet function, TikTok said: "Duets allow you to build on another user's video on TikTok by recording your own video alongside the original as it plays. It's a creative format for interacting with others' videos, building on existing stories, and creating new and unique content in collaboration with creators across the platform."
