Viral Video of Two Stray Cats in Love Seen by 26M: 'Us in Another Universe'

A moment in which two lovestruck cats walk side by side has been watched by over 26.5 million viewers since the TikTok video was shared Wednesday.

The feline moment may look familiar to some because of a scene from the 2001 cult film Vanilla Sky, which starred Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz. The film follows Cruise's character as he deals with the fallout from a terrible accident that left him with a facial disfigurement.

The plot later reveals that Cruise had died years before and was cryogenically frozen. But during an interaction between the couple before they meet their respective fates, Cruz tells him: "I'll tell you in another life, when we are both cats."

The viral TikTok video perfectly embodies the idea of "us in another universe," as its overlaid wording says.

Even so, belief in reincarnation isn't widely accepted by Americans, according to a Pew Research Center survey that was done in 2021. Only 33 percent of 6,485 U.S. adults polled said they believe that people will be reborn again and again.

The survey's results found that women are more likely than men to believe in reincarnation (38 percent vs. 27 percent). Age also was a factor. The number of adults under 50 who believe in reincarnation is nearly 4 out of 10 (38 percent), compared with 27 percent of adults over 50.

Previously, a woman told Newsweek she believed her beloved cat Gigi had come back as her new puppy. Brooke Lowrey said: "When Gigi passed I had a friend tell me when one of your animals dies they're up there kind of picking out your next animal."

The TikTok video's caption reads: "Took this video this morning and thought it matched this [us in another universe] trend perfect." The clip has racked up 7.3 million likes and over 50,000 comments, with some users referring to the aforementioned quote from the film.
