Who Won the Tony Awards 2017? 'Dear Evan Hansen,' Ben Platt, Bette Midler, Kevin Kline, Cynthia Nixon and More

Kevin Spacey started the evening with a Broadway-inspired bang, singing and dancing his introduction to the 71st Annual Tony Awards. The first-time host's opening number described waiting anxiously for the call to ask him to take the helm of the evening, as he donned costumes that referenced Ben Platt in Dear Evan Hansen, Josh Groban in Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 and others of the evening's nominees.

"There will be mornings you'll be utterly defeated by the waiting. Days when other stars get calls for offers to be host," he sang. "It's irritating. Why are they hating? Think I can't get the ratings?"

Spacey looked around for "a mentor I need to turn me into Fred Astaire," and lamented that previous hosts—including Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris and Ricky Gervais—weren't there. But the Rockettes were there, as were Stephen Colbert, Whoopie Goldberg and Billy Crystal (via video). Colbert's advice? "If it doesn't land, throw in a jazz hand." While Spacey may not have flexed his jazz hands so much, he did bust out the tap shoes—showing he can handle just about any role.

"Even if mean tweets come crashing through... my career shattered on the ground, I'm Broadway bound," he sang. "Even if I look just like a schmuck and all the trolls on Facebook say I suck, my career shattered on the ground," he added, and then concluded, talking: "This is the 71st Annual Tony Awards. I'm Kevin Spacey. Your host is found."

No one show was as dominant in 2017 as Hamilton was last year with a record 16 nominations. This year Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 led the field going in with a dozen nominations, followed by the revival of Hello, Dolly! with 10, Dear Evan Hansen with nine, A Doll's House, Part 2 with eight and finally seven nods each for Oslo, Come From Away and Groundhog Day the Musical.

But by the end of the night, Dear Evan Hansen was the biggest winner with six awards, including the prestigious prize for best musical, followed by Hello, Dolly! with four wins.
