The Premier League transfer window may be closed, but the other European leagues remain open for business and the rumor mill is still cranked up to full strength.
Here, Newsweek takes you through all the gossip and transfer stories swirling around European soccer.
Let's begin with Manchester United, who look set to tie David De Gea down to a new long-term deal. The Spaniard has developed into the best goalkeeper in the world at United and been repeatedly linked with a move back to Spain, almost joining Real Madrid three years ago. However, the Spanish giants have just signed Thibaut Courtois to a six-year deal, ending their interest in De Gea, and United are set to capitalize.
According to The Guardian, the Spaniard will be offered a significant increase on his $230,000-a-week salary to remain at Old Trafford for years to come. While De Gea has no intention of leaving United, Matteo Darmian is desperate to get out of town and has set his sights on a return to Italy.
The Italian started United's first game of the season on Friday but has been linked with a move to Serie A throughout the summer, amid interest from Napoli, Inter Milan and Juventus. The Manchester Evening News believes United are prepared to let him leave as long as they receive an acceptable offer, which is likely to be for a permanent move instead of a loan deal.
Meanwhile, the Daily Star claims Paris Saint-Germain are set to test Tottenham Hotspur's resolve with a $128 million bid for Christian Eriksen. The Dane has two years left on his contract and is also reportedly on Real Madrid's radar, who could step up their interest should they lose Luka Modric to Inter Milan this summer.
However, it is unlikely Spurs will sanction a deal for Eriksen, given they have not signed anyone this summer and cannot do so until January.
Tottenham, however, could wave goodbye to Danny Rose before the end of the month. The Daily Mirror claims PSG and Schalke 04 are both interested in the left-back, who has lost his starting spot to Ben Davies.
Rose was linked with a move to United earlier this summer but nothing came of it. He could now head away from the Premier League, either on loan or on a permanent basis. Should he choose to move to Schalke, Rose could be joined by Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who again looks short of first-team opportunities at Chelsea.
According to the Daily Mail, the Bundesliga club are interested in the 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace and looks to be behind Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley in Chelsea's pecking order.
Conversely, the Daily Telegraph, believes Loftus-Cheek will remain at Stamford Bridge now that Tiemoue Bakayoko has completed a loan move to AC Milan.
Elsewhere, the Daily Mirror reports Liverpool face a race against Barcelona to secure PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot. Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the Frenchman and Liverpool hope to land him on a pre-contract agreement ahead of him moving next summer, but Barcelona still hope to convince Rabiot to move to Spain. They have until the end of the month to do so.
