How Travis Kelce's Mom Just Low-Key Supported Taylor Swift's New Album

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

Travis Kelce has yet to publicly react to the release of The Tortured Poets' Department, but his mom has in one subtle move.

Donna Kelce, who has become close with Swift ever since the "Fortnight" singer started dating Travis in 2023, "liked" Swift's announcement revealing that her new album is actually a surprise double album.

"It's a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️," Swift shared via Instagram on Friday, April 19, just several hours after releasing the first half of the record. "I'd written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here's the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn't mine anymore… it's all yours."

Back in February, Travis revealed during a Super Bowl press conference that he had listened to some songs off the album, praising Swift's record as "unbelievable."

"I have heard some of it, yes," the Kansas City tight end shared at the time. "It is unbelievable, I can't wait for her to shake up the world when it finally drops."

With much of the album speculated to be about Swift's short-lived romance with Matty Healy — the singer-songwriter briefly dated the 1975 frontman in May 2023 after her breakup from longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn — fans have been joking about the NFL star's reaction to the album, tweeting memes about how they believe Travis is feeling. (For what it's worth, Swifties are also speculating that there are several tracks about Travis on the album, including "The Alchemy" and "So High School," both of which feature telling, sweet lyrics about their romance.)

Travis and Swift began dating in late summer 2023, with the 14-time Grammy winner making her first public appearance with the Kelce family that September. She and Donna were filmed next to each other while talking and cheering on the Chiefs against the Chicago Bears.

After trying to keep her discussion with Swift close to the vest, Donna later told WSJ. Magazine that she had never seen her younger son so happy.

"I can tell you this. He's happier than I've seen him in a long time," she gushed. "God bless him, he shot for the stars!"

Last month, a source told Us Weekly that the Swift and Kelce families were super happy about Travis and Taylor's romance.

"Both of their families love them as a couple and Taylor has become even more close with Travis' mom, [Donna]," the insider said. "Taylor has really been integrated into the family."
