Tropical storm Gordon has formed near the Florida Keys, the National Hurricane Center announced.
The storm is about 10 miles west of Key Largo in the Florida Keys, and about 30 miles east of Cape Sable. The storm is moving northeast at 16 miles per hour, according to the center's report.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Florida areas of Golden Beach, Bonita Beach, Craig Key to Ocean Reef and Florida Bay. There have also been tropical storm warnings for the Alabama-Florida border westward to east of Lake Maurepas in Louisiana, Lake Pontchartrain and Morgan City, Louisiana, according to the Weather Channel. The website stated that a tropical storm warning was usually issued when winds exceeded 39 miles per hour in less than 36 hours.
The hurricane center stated that it was possible that there could be flooding in some of the affected areas. The water could reach 1 to 2 feet from Destin Florida to the Mississippi-Alabama border, 2 to 4 feet from the Mississippi-Alabama border to the mouth of the Mississippi River, and 1 to 2 feet from the river to the Louisiana-Texas border.
Tropical storm Gordon is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rain over the central and northwestern Bahamas, the Florida Keys and South Florida through early Tuesday, according to the hurricane center. The storm is also expected to produce 4 to 6 inches of rain accumulations over southern Mississippi, southern Alabama and Louisiana through early Thursday.
"Tropical storm conditions are occurring in the warning areas across South Florida and the Florida Keys, and those conditions should continue through the afternoon. Tropical storm conditions are expected within portions of the central Gulf Coast warning area by late Tuesday," the center wrote.
Florida Governor Rick Scott wrote on Twitter on Sunday that residents and visitors should be prepared and have an evacuation plan in case of emergency.
"Floridians and our visitors should remain vigilant, listen to local news reports & follow @FLSERT for the latest information. With the peak of hurricane season upon us, now is the time to get prepared. Make sure that you and your family have a plan in place in case of disaster," Scott tweeted.
