Trump Ridicules Ronna McDaniel for Getting 'Fired by Fake News NBC'

Former Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna McDaniel's abrupt exit from NBC News has prompted ex-President Donald Trump to ridicule his former ally for being dumped by the "fake news."

McDaniel left her position at the RNC earlier this month at the request of Trump. She was hired on Friday to provide on-air political analysis for MSNBC and NBC in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, an expected rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden.

However, McDaniel's hiring elicited fierce backlash from prominent employees of the network, resulting in NBCUniversal News Group chairman Cesar Conde announcing on Tuesday that she had been dismissed over concerns about maintaining a "cohesive" newsroom.

Trump weighed in on the termination in a Truth Social post hours later, declaring McDaniel a new resident of "NEVER NEVERLAND" and suggesting that she deserved her fate at the hands of the network's "Radical Left Lunatics."

"Wow! Ronna McDaniel got fired by Fake News NBC. She only lasted two days, and this after McDaniel went out of her way to say what they wanted to hear," Trump wrote, apparently referring to McDaniel saying that Biden won the 2020 election "fair and square" during a Meet the Press interview on Sunday.

"It leaves her in a very strange place, it's called NEVER NEVERLAND, and it's not a place you want to be," he continued. "These Radical Left Lunatics are CRAZY, and the top people at NBC ARE WEAK. They were BROKEN and EMBARRASSED by LOW RATINGS, HIGHLY OVERPAID, 'TALENT.' BRING BACK FREE AND FAIR PRESS - MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN 2024!"

McDaniel had not publicly reacted to her firing at the time of publication. She could not be reached for comment on Tuesday, having also reportedly been dropped by her representatives at Creative Artists Agency on the same day.

Newsweek reached out for comment to the RNC via email on Tuesday night.

NBC's decision to hire McDaniel was met with swift condemnation by many of the network's most prominent personalities, including former Meet the Press host Chuck Todd and current MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, Lawrence O'Donnell, Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow—who called the move "inexplicable."

Although conservative critics also denounced the hiring over concerns that McDaniel was attempting to "help Democrats," criticism from the left frequently focused on the former RNC chairwoman's history of boosting Trump and his false claims of a "stolen" 2020 election.

McDaniel seemingly reversed her stance during the Meet the Press interview on Sunday, while explaining that she had been forced to "take one for the whole team" while leading the RNC but could now speak her own opinions more openly.

"[Biden] won, he is the legitimate president, fair and square," McDaniel said. "He won, it's certified, it's done. But I do think it's fair to say there were problems in 2020."

McDaniel also said during the interview that she was opposed to releasing "people who committed violent acts on January 6" from prison, resisting Trump's plan to pardon "the J6 hostages" who participated in the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
