Donald Trump continued his stream of tweets criticizing the Russia probe, claiming Democrats and Russians were laughing at the investigation, which he described as an "excuse for a lost election."

In a series of tweets on Sunday, the president also hit out at Republicans who are not supporting him, particularly those he claims to have "carried over the line on my back."

"It's very sad that Republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back, do very little to protect their President," he wrote.

As the phony Russian Witch Hunt continues, two groups are laughing at this excuse for a lost election taking hold, Democrats and Russians!

Several minutes earlier, he had stated: "As the phony Russian Witch Hunt continues, two groups are laughing at this excuse for a lost election taking hold, Democrats and Russians!"

Trump has stepped up his criticism of the Russia probe in the past few weeks, particularly since news emerged that his son Donald Jr. met with a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer who promised him damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

Since this point, Trump has questioned why his son is being looked into while bringing up the subject of Clinton's emails once again in what appears to be an effort to deflect from the investigation into Russia's alleged attempt to interfere in the U.S. election.

Commenting on The Washington Post report that Trump attempted to discover whether he was allowed to pardon himself, family members and aides, he hit out at what he described as "fake news."

"While all agree the U. S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us. FAKE NEWS," he wrote on July 22.

"So many people are asking why isn't the A.G. or Special Council looking at the many Hillary Clinton or Comey crimes. 33,000 e-mails deleted?" he said, adding: "What about all of the Clinton ties to Russia, including Podesta Company, Uranium deal, Russian Reset, big dollar speeches etc."

"My son Donald openly gave his e-mails to the media & authorities whereas Crooked Hillary Clinton deleted (& acid washed) her 33,000 e-mails!," he added.
