Donald Trump touted his administration's accomplishments and attacked the "fake news media" in a tweet on Sunday night after morning talk shows discussed the possibility that the president could face indictment on campaign finance charges.
On Sunday afternoon, Trump claimed on Twitter that his administration "has accomplished more than any other U.S. Administration" and condemned the "fake news media" as an "enemy of the people."
"The Trump Administration has accomplished more than any other U.S. Administration in its first two (not even) years of existence, & we are having a great time doing it!," the president wrote. "All of this despite the Fake News Media, which has gone totally out of its mind-truly the Enemy of the People!"
Trump's tweet came just hours after news broke that Mike Pence's aide Nick Ayers will not be replacing White House chief of staff John Kelly after he leaves his post at the end of this year.
The president's post also follows Sunday morning talk show discussions on the possibility that he could be indicted on campaign finance charges, following the Friday filing of Michael Cohen's sentencing memorandum by federal prosecutors.
During Fox & Friends this morning, conservative columnist Andrew McCarthy said he believes New York prosecutors are "clearly going after the president on campaign finance violations."
"[In] the Southern District of New York case, which is different from the Mueller case, they are clearly going after the president on campaign finance violations and if you read the sentencing memo the Southern District filed in Cohen's case, it's clear that Trump is the target and he'll be indicted eventually," McCarthy said, before Fox News host Ed Henry responded: "That kind of stops me in my tracks."
While over at MSNBC, conservative Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin predicted that Trump could even resign 10 minutes before the next inauguration so that Pence could step in and pardon him.
"He risks being prosecuted after he leaves office," Rubin explained on MSNBC's AM Joy. "For that very reason, I would predict here on MSNBC that when Trump leaves office, he will resign the presidency 10 minutes before Mike Pence leaves office, allowing Pence to pardon him."
Trump's tweet on Sunday was not the first time the president has labeled the "fake news media" an "enemy of the people." Earlier this week, the president tweeted a similar statement attacking the press for what he perceives as unfair coverage over his administration.
