Twitter Came Up With Names for Trump Grocery Stores, and It's Beautiful

Donald Trump's strange assertion that you need an ID to buy groceries has been thoroughly embraced by social media users, who have renamed grocery stores after the president—prompting #TrumpGroceryStores to trend on Twitter.

The president made the comment at a rally in Florida when he touched on the topic of voter ID, telling the crowd, "The time has come for voter ID, like everything else. If you go out and want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID."

Voter ID plans have been criticized for making it harder for some groups to vote and threatening to disfranchise minorities. The introducing of voter ID requirements is seen by some as little more than an attempt at voter supression.

Trump's groceries remark prompted an immediate reaction, with numerous social media users and pundits wondering when the billionaire president last went to a grocery store and why he believes you needed a photo ID for food shopping.

White house press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted some damage control, claiming the president was referring to alcohol.

Asked at a White House press briefing when the president last went to a grocery store, Huckabee Sanders replied: "I'm not sure. I'm not sure why that matters either.

"If you go to the grocery store and you buy beer and wine, you're certainly going to show your ID," she continued, prompting the press to question why the president would need an ID when he doesn't drink.

"He's not saying every time he went in; he said when you go to the grocery store," she replied. "I'm pretty sure that everybody in here who's been to a grocery store that's purchased beer or wine has probably had to show their ID. If they didn't, then that's probably a problem with the grocery store."

However, the press secretary's explanation of Trump's ID comments didn't appear to satisfy some Twitter users, who had their own fun coming up with the best Trump-themed grocery stores. Others reiterated the question about when the president last went to a grocery store—if indeed he ever does.

"Troll foods," one Twitter user suggested, while "Traitor Joe's" was suggested by a number of people.

Also on the list were "A&Pee Tape," "Home Despot," "Aldis Indictments," "Russian Target" and "(Grab 'em by the) Publix," among numerous other suggestions from pun-happy social media users.
