The cooking competition between Bill Murray and Guy Fieri was Nacho Average Showdown...literally. On May 15, the Caddyshack actor and the diner-loving chef battled it out during an online nacho making contest, that just happened to be titled as such.
Murray was accompanied by his son, Homer, while Fieri's son Hunter (who considers himself the Prince of Flavortown, just in case you're curious) helped his father during the friendly competition.
Actor Terry Crews and NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal served as judges for the online competition. Food Network personality Carla Hall hosted the showdown, which aired on Facebook Live.
Murray and Fieri previously teased the event during a virtual appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when they teamed up to teach Fallon how to make nachos.
"I know it's crazy, but we did it on Jimmy Fallon the other night and had a blast," Fieri said in a video promoting the Facebook Live event. "You're gonna dig it."
Homer, who is a professional chef and co-owns the Brooklyn restaurant 21 Greenpoint, did most of the heavy lifting for Team Murray. Meanwhile, the Lost in Translation star wore a mask and heckled the creative teamwork of the Fieris. He called them out for using mac and cheese as a nacho ingredient. The Mayor of Flavortown said he did his research and found out that the judges are big fans of the gooey pasta, and insisted that it was a fair move.
Since there was no tasting the culinary masterpieces, Murray and Fieri had to describe their food in mouth-watering detail in order to persuade the judges that one nacho creation was better than its competitor. The Murrays opted for a more traditional take on the appetizer, while team Fieri made a tower of tostada nachos.
Although Crews sided with Fieri's creation and Shaq was more enticed by Murray's food, The Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives host came out victorious in the nacho competition after Hall chimed in with her pick.
The virtual cooking event was a fundraiser for Fieri's Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, which gives financial help to restaurant employees affected by the coronavirus pandemic. As of May 15, Fieri already raised over $20 million.
