USWNT Olympic Schedule: Dates, Times, How to Watch Tokyo 2020 Matches on TV and Online

The U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) heads to the Tokyo Olympics looking for a first gold medal in nine years after failing to make the gold medal match in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Gold medalist four times in the first five Olympics that featured women's soccer since it was introduced for the first time at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, the USWNT was knocked out on penalties by eventual runner-up Sweden five years ago.

It was only the second time in 16 years the Americans failed to win gold since losing to Norway in the final of the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the first time the USWNT had failed to reach the final.

In the intervening five years since the Rio Games, the USWNT has defended its World Cup title and added an eighth Gold Cup to its trophy cabinet. It arrives in Japan as the firm favorite, particularly given Germany, the reigning Olympic champions, has failed to qualify.

The U.S. opens its tournament against Sweden on Wednesday, before facing New Zealand three days later and Australia on July 27 in the final Group G game.

How to Watch Olympics Women's Soccer on TV and Online

Selected games from the women's tournament will be carried across five separate NBC channels, with NBCSN, USA Network and Olympic Channel broadcasting games in English, while Telemundo and Universo will carry games in Spanish. Every game in the tournament will be live streamed via the NBCOlympics website and the NBC Spors App, as well as via the Telemundo Deportes website and the Telemundo Deportes app.

A livestream of selected games will also be available via fuboTV, which carries NBC networks.

When Does the Women's Olympic Soccer Tournament Start?

While the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is scheduled for July 23, women's soccer is among the events getting underway two days earlier. The tournament kicks off on Wednesday, July 21, when Great Britain takes on Chile at the Sapporo Dome. Japan faces Canada at the same venue later on Wednesday, while the USWNT kicks off its tournament on the same day against Sweden in Tokyo.

The group phase runs until July, with the knockout stages beginning on July 30. Both semifinals are scheduled for August 2, with the bronze and gold medal matches to be held on August 5 and August 6, respectively.
