Watch Cars Float Away From New Jersey Dealership After Flash Flood

Flash flooding in New Jersey this weekend made cars on a dealership lot float away like unmanned boats on a raging river.

About a dozen cars floated away from the Route 46 Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Little Falls, some with sticker prices visible on the windshield, down the Peckman River in New Jersey's Passaic County, according to nj.com.

A video was posted to Facebook Saturday night that nj.com said was taken from an overpass on NJ's Route 46. Cars " can be seen floating swiftly down the rushing brown waters as onlookers stood on the bridge and watched in shock," nj.com reported.

The area of Caldwell, New Jersey received about 5 inches of rain on Saturday before 8 p.m. the National Weather Service reported. It's upstream from Little Falls, where the car dealership is located. Flash flood watches had been posted in the area throughout the day as a drenching system moved through the area.

The heavy rain in a short period of time turned the area under the Route 46 overpass into a raging river, taking the cars, including SUVs, and floating them down the river like boats without a captain.

"A rushing torrent of muddy water during Saturday's rainstorm sent vehicles floating and crashing into one another at a Route 46 dealership in Little Falls," reported the Garfield Daily Voice.

The National Weather Service has a River Flood warning in effect Sunday for the Passaic River, saying it will continue to rise Sunday to 20 feet (flood stage is 19 feet.)
