Video of U.S. Marine Giving Afghan Children Water As They Wait for Evacuation Goes Viral

Video footage has emerged of a U.S. marine giving several Afghan children water while they wait to be evacuated from the country.

The viral clip appears to have been filmed in Kabul, where the U.S. military is currently assisting those trying to flee in the wake of the Taliban takeover of the country.

Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul is one of the only routes out of Afghanistan.

In the video, a marine can be seen pouring water directly into the mouths of several young Afghan children from a clear plastic bottle.

The marine, who is dressed in full combat gear, is shown crouching down to help the kids and can also be seen smiling and laughing with them in the clip.

At one point, he removes his helmet while continuing to offer water to several young children being held by their parents.

The identity of the marine in the footage is not yet known. Newsweek has contacted the Department of Defense for verification.

His act of kindness has gone viral on Twitter, with the video popping up across several accounts where his actions have drawn praise.

It has been claimed that the footage was filmed while the children and families were waiting to be granted access to Kabul airport.

Actor Daniel Newman shared the clip, writing: "Who's this AMERICAN Soldier at Kabul airport Afghanistan? He just won the Internet."

Sportswriter Joe Pompliano, meanwhile, posted the video on Twitter describing it as "The best thing you'll see all week."

An estimated 5,200 U.S. troops remain on the ground at Kabul airport, as work continues to evacuate the thousands of Afghans who worked for America and its NATO allies over the past two decades.

President Joe Biden remains under pressure to ensure these Afghan nationals are provided safe passage out of the country amid concerns over any potential reprisals they could otherwise face under the newly installed Taliban regime.

The Biden administration was caught off guard by the speed with which the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, resulting in a scramble to evacuate Americans and Afghan allies.

On Sunday, President Biden said an estimated 36,000 people were evacuated from Kabul airport over the weekend.

Footage of the Marine's life-affirming actions stands in stark contrast to much of what has emerged from Afghanistan on social media since the Taliban assumed control.

Over the past week, dramatic footage has captured people handing babies to U.S. soldiers over razor wire at Kabul airport in order to ensure their safe passage.

Several people were also filmed falling from a U.S. military plane while attempting to cling to the landing gear before takeoff.
