Viola Davis Pretending to Take A Shot Viewed More than 5 Million Times

Despite an Oscars upset last night for Viola Davis, the actress stunned on the red carpet and a clip of her pretending to take a shot has gone viral.

Both Chadwick Boseman and Davis were snubbed for their roles in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, prompting confusion for many fans who had expected a historic night for Black actors.

However, Davis still managed to steal the show before the ceremony even kicked off.

Shared on Twitter by Variety, a clip shows the 55-year-old looking stunning in an Alexander McQueen gown and showing off her acting skills as she mimes drinking a shot in a totally realistic manner, complete with pretend swilling and a fake burning sensation.

The clip has now been viewed more than five million times at the time of publishing.

Fans are loving the fun moment, with one viral retweeting likening the mini-performance to Davis' role as the much loved Annalise Keating in How To Get Away With Murder.

Fans of the drama will know that the character slowly succumbs to alcoholism over the course of the series.

As one Twitter user joked in a viral tweet: "she played Annalise Keating for 6 years... what did you expect."

Another person added: "She so damned good, I didn't even realize there was no glass in her hand til I read your caption a second time."

While another fan tweeted: "someone give viola davis an oscar for being viola davis."

Elsewhere on the red carpet, Davis paid tribute to her Ma Rainey's Black Bottom co-star Boseman, who died last August at the age of 43 after a private battle with cancer.

"He was authenticity on steroids," she said.

"Sometimes people honor people who actually were not very nice or [for whom] the persona did not match the real person. This... it matches the person, I'm telling you. This person, this human being, this artist, did not mistake his presence for the event. He absolutely honored the work."

Davis continued: "A lot of people enter this business because they want to be famous actors. They don't want to be actors; they want to be famous actors. [Boseman] entered it because he just wanted to be an artist."

Davis lost out in the Best Actress category to Frances McDormand who took home her third Oscar for her role in Nomandland.

Anthony Hopkins won in the Best Actor category for The Father, Nomadland won Best Picture and Chloe Zhao won Best Director.

Emerald Fennel won Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman.
