Viral Tweet Shows Hilarious Post From Mother Calling Out 'Freeloader' Son

A woman took to Twitter last week to share an amusing post shared on her neighborhood's Nextdoor forum from a mother calling out her son.

The tweet from journalist Lizzie O'Leary has over 52,000 likes and over 2,000 comments.

In the post, pulled from the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, a mom addresses the "woman who hooked up with my son last night."

What follows is a string of callouts and warnings both to the unidentified woman and her son.

Nextdoor is a social network for neighborhoods where neighbors can connect with one another to "receive trusted information, give and get help, get things done, and build real-world connections with those nearby," according to the company's website.

In 2020, Nextdoor had a resurgence of sorts during the pandemic when many had their in-person social connections cut off and turned online for these interactions.

According to CNN, in March 2020 the company reported an 80 percent increase in user engagement over the early weeks of March especially in areas hit hard from COVID like the greater New York City area and Seattle.

O'Leary told Newsweek in an email that she rarely logs onto the site but when she got a preview of this post in the 'daily digest' email she "had to see it."

"It was hilarious!," she said. "I have no idea if it's real — it might be a little too good to be real — but it made me laugh."

In the post, the mom goes on to call out her "freeloader" son and the lies he reportedly told his guest.

"I am not his roommate, I am his mother," the post reads. "He's a freeloader and I'm the one who taught him to put a little bit of nutmeg inside those scrambled eggs. He did not go to culinary school."

"I hope you get to read this because you're in for a good ride and not allowed back into my house because he needs to get a job."

"I would have introduced myself had I known he said this to you, but since we live under the same roof I heard him say this to his friend on the phone. His friend's name is [J]osh, you probably heard him talk about his friend because he published one book and thinks he suddenly a famous author. He's also a freeloading slob."

O'Leary said which tweets she shares end up going viral is a "mystery" to her.

"I've tossed off tweets that do crazy numbers, and posted things I think are amazing that meet with crickets. Like people, the internet is a mystery," she told Newsweek.

Commenters on the viral tweet got a kick out of the post and its response.

One commenter shared a screenshot of what appears to be an update to the original post saying that her son has promised to get a job but that she made sure the job "isn't going to involve opening up a tic tock[sic] account/Instagram food reviewer."

She goes on to say that Josh was upset that she used his real name and calls out where he likes to hang out.

"[F**k] Josh. He's still a freeloader," she wrote.

"Approximately 95% of all posts in my neighborhood are about dog poop, off leash dogs, loud noises, and ring doorbell videos of package thieves," another commenter added. "Park Slope sound more interesting."
