The Bentley Continental GT Speed Coupe and Convertible represent no-compromise performance grand touring. Utilizing a combination of four chassis technologies, the Continental GT Speed has achieved a new level of agility, performance and ride quality.
This Bentley hosts a suite of new systems and equipment including an electronic limited slip differential, all-wheel steering and electronic stability control, which allow the car to tackle corner with an increased level of precision with a powertrain that delivers 626 pound-feet of torque.
That performance is shown off in the film, Continental Drift, which was filmed at an abandoned air base on the island of Sicily.
The dynamic chassis and rear-biased torque split of the GT Speed – which under most conditions will send the majority of the W12 engine's power to the rear wheels – has made this new kind of film possible for Bentley.
"After the team discovered Comiso Air Station for the launch of the GT Speed, and we'd agreed to create a gymkhana-style course there, the next step was to design a film unlike anything we'd shot before," said Mike Sayer, head of product communications at Bentley.
"Sliding a metallic yellow Bentley around an abandoned air base is certainly an experience, and new territory for us, but the result shows just how dynamic the best Grand Tourer in the world has become."
Continental Drift not only showcases the GT Speed's talents but also reflects on the car's heritage. The 1952 R-Type Continental seen at the start and end of the film is Bentley's Heritage Collection, and in its day was the fastest four-seat car in the world.
The powerful design of the R-Type Continental was also the inspiration for the design of the Continental GT. The two share the same DNA from the power line from the front wheel to the haunch over the rear wheels and the sloping roof line.
For the first time in a Bentley, the latest generation of the Continental GT Speed has introduced the use of an electronic limited slip differential that is designed to increase lateral capacity, improved longitudinal stability, enhanced on-throttle adjustability and deliver better traction in adverse road conditions.
The Bentley also houses electronic all-wheel steering that enhances the nature of the GT Speed in each of the driving modes, utilizing up to four degrees of steering lock on the rear wheels.
Bentley's new electronic stability control system provides an even greater level of freedom for the more skilled driver. With it engaged, the car provides stability over uneven surfaces or in inclement weather conditions. When switched to Dynamic mode, the system allows an experienced pilot to set and alter the cornering stance of the car on-throttle however they like.
With the electronic stability control system switched off, the mechanical grip and balance of the GT Speed allows a driver-focused experience previously only seen in Bentley's racing machines.
Torque distribution can vary across the powertrain according to the selected Drive Mode. In the Comfort and Bentley modes, the system can send up to 36 percent of torque to the front axle to keep the car sure-footed. It can counter oversteer by applying up to 295 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels.
The 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed Coupe starts at $274,900 not including destination and delivery fees.
